Rockville Chess Club
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT : We are pleased to announce that the Rockville Chess Club will also be meeting every 2nd and 4th Friday at the Rockville Science Center from 7pm to 10pm.
For these Fridays, we'll be organizing rated ($5 fee) and unrated blitz tournaments alongside other events. Join us for these tournaments or come in and play.
Email us at email@example.com if you want to play in the tournaments. We hope to see you.
We are a small group of chess enthusiasts that gather regularly to learn and play. We welcome players of all levels ranging from beginners to masters and all age ranges.
Our mission is to create a welcoming environment for all chess players and promote growth and collaboration. We may even host the occasional USCF rated tournament.
You can find us at the Rockville Science Center, located in 36C Maryland Ave, Rockville, MD every Monday from 6.30pm to 9:30pm. Afterwards, we often make our way to the Buffalo Wild Wings across the street to continue playing and socializing until midnight.
We hope to uplift the playing strength of everyone who comes by. We help all our players play in USCF-rated events which we hope to organise regularly on a cost-recovery basis.
We value respectful dialogue and a spirit of mutual growth in all players within our club.
What we've done - 2022 Year in Review
FM Luke Wong has been leading weekly analysis sessions on Mondays at the Rockville Science Center. We celebrated the conclusion of our first action event on Apr 30, 2022, which we've organized to help our players get an initial rating. We held our first teams match against Frederick Chess Club on May 7, 2022 and will be having a series of classical quads in the near future.
We've successfully held our 1st large scale round-robin blitz event on Jul 2, 2022; it was well-received and we're looking to conduct this regularly.
To date, we had ran four editions of the Quads tournaments; and will continue to be running monthly editions of it.
On 23-25 September 2022, a group of us visited New York City on a chess pilgrimage. We played the hustlers at the Washington Square Park and Union Square, visited Marshall Chess Club and the Chess Forum, a shop that specialises in chess supplies.
You can join our WhatsApp group to learn about FM Luke's free lessons and our USCF-rated tournaments. For our tournaments, to cover costs of room rentals, trophies/medals, and USCF submissions, we kindly request a $10 donation.
