1st Crown OctoBlitz Double Roundrobins!

Event Information

  • Please join us for our First Crown OctoBlitz Double Round Robins, which will be USCF-rated. What this means: players will be arranged in descending order of strength and broken into groups of eight to play a double round robin (you will take black and white against the same player - makes pairings easier too) among each other.

  • Venue. Gaithersburg Library, Large Room, 2nd Floor, 18330 Montgomery Village Ave, Gaithersburg, MD 20879. We have corrected the address, so please ensure you have correct address. Beware of speed and/or traffic cameras.

  • Tournament Appointment Holders. Chief Tournament Director: FM Luke Wong; Assistant Tournament Directors: Aloysius Han & Richard Ha

  • Date and Time. DATE CHANGED to Saturday, July 2, 2022, from 2PM-5PM. Registration: 130PM-2PM.

  • Time control/Format. 14 rounds, G/5 minutes, sudden death. Players will be grouped in sections of eight (8) by similar USCF rating and play the other seven (7) players, both as white and black. Blitz rules, meaning called illegal moves from your opponent equals a loss.

  • Entry Fee. $0, but requesting $5 donation to help offset room rental and USCF tournament submission costs.

  • USCF membership. Players need to ensure their memberships are current; you can renew your membership directly with USCF. We will not pair players with inactive or no USCF memberships. (An inactive membership or no membership causes delays to our result submission and lead to disappointed players as well.

  • Prizes: No prizes.

  • Pre-Register: Pre-register at: https://www.rockvillechess.org/events/1st-crown-octopus-blitz-jul-16-2022 Only first 48 USCF-active players who pre-register are guaranteed playing spots. Anybody pre-registering or on-site registering thereafter is not guaranteed a playing spot. If you plan to register on-site (not recommended), please email richard.ha7@gmail.com as soon as you can beforehand, so we could then determine whether we even have a playing spot for you. Thus far, pre-registrants range from 389 USCF to 2034.
